DNS BIND

DNS BIND is a set of software features for interacting with the Domain Name System (DNS). Its most prominent component, named (name daemon), performs both of the main DNS server roles, acting as an authoritative name server for DNS zones and as a recursive resolver in the network. Contained in the suite are various administration tools such as nsupdate and dig and a DNS resolver interface library. In its current version, BIND 9 features include: TSIG, nsupdate, IPv6, RNDC (remote name daemon control), views, multiprocessor support, Response Rate Limiting (RRL), DNSSEC and broad portability.

checkpoint

The DBMS checkpoint is a procedure of compressing the transaction log file by transferring the old transaction to permanent storage. It helps in system recovery when the failure occurs. The procedure of system recovery includes reading of log file in reverse order and maintaining redo and undo lists. A checkpoint writes the current in-memory modified pages (known as dirty pages) and transaction log information from memory to disk, and also records the information in the transaction log. The Database Engine supports several types of checkpoints: automatic, indirect, manual, and internal. The checkpoint is used to declare a point before which the DBMS was in the consistent state, and all transactions were committed. During transaction execution, such checkpoints are traced. After execution, transaction log files will be created.

vMotion

vMotion is a feature of VMSphere, a suite of software programmes geared towards server virtualisation and cloud computing. It allows the migration of operational guest virtual machines between similar but separate hardware hosts sharing the same storage. The migration is entirely transparent to the end user on the virtual machine. VMotion keeps control of continuous transactions of memory in a bitmap. It works with an RDM (raw device mapping) shared disk on virtual compatibility mode.
